Track Name: The Ballad of Tillie Rue
Sweet Tillie Rue was drinkin' booze at the Iron Horse Saloon
In walked a man about five foot ten, said "Baby, how do you do?"
Well she downed her drink cause she had to think as he looked her up and down
She said, "I have a name and it's not baby, my name is Tille Rue!"

"Oh I'm sorry miss, but you must have missed
I'm fine society. And you're awfully high and mighty for a poor girl of 23!
Let me see your hand, don't you have a man
to show you right from wrong? Well, I can't say that I'd blame them,
you're reckless drunk and you're headstrong!"

Chorus
Tillie Rue was drinkin' booze
Like she was accustomed to
But she had better things to do
Divination and voodoo

She pulled back her hand, shook her head and turned to walk away
But he held her there by her long hair, said "Don't move or disobey!"
Sweet Tillie Rue now had the blues, this man was awfully strange
Dragged her downstairs it was not fair
But she could not get away!

Chorus

One stormy night Sweet Tillie Rue plotted her revenge
With a shiny Starr Revolver tucked into her corset lace
She hiked up her skirts and made her way under the blue full moon
to the yonder hills where the moonshine stills were secretly tucked away

Chorus

Oh she saw him there with his short black hair and his Revenuer's coat
She drew her gun to shoot him but his aim was fast and true
Hot bullets pierced the rainy night and Tillie gasped and moaned
Oh she died right there but a soft white sphere hovered under the moon

Chorus

Two days had passed that mean old man went back to the moonshine stills
To see if he could tax the folks who brewed their red-eye there
Well he saw no trace of name or face so he made his was back downhill
But a white-hot jolt went thru his bones for there was Tillie Rue!

Chorus

Oh she was not dead, was it in his head? Cause she mounted his black horse
With a warrior yell her bosom swelled and it filled him with remorse
"Sweet Tillie Rue, my god it's you! I can't believe my eyes!"
She gazed at him so fiercely and said, "My spirit will rise"

Chorus

Track Name: Helen More
(slow intro)
I shot my baby down in a cold, cold rage
Three bullets in his chest as he left the stage
I loved my baby but I had to let him go
I watched him lift his trumpet to the microphone
My shoulder's stiffened and my eyes they filled with tears
Woah, is there nothing left for me?

Met at the Black Shoe, it was 1962
It was so cold he couldn't even play the blues
I guess his trumpet was at the pawn shop down the street
I took him in and got him on his feet
He started groovin, kicked heroin and played some shows
I kept him fed and warm and satisfied
He played so sweetly, a simple melody for me
And when he played you know my heart was beating

Chorus
I shot my baby down in a cold cold rage
Three bullets in his chest as he left the stage
I loved my baby but I had to let him go
Woah, is there nothing left for me

He was a junkie, I helped him get clean and get free
All of his jazz friends said I saved him from death
But other ladies started to take the place of me
That's when I lost my shit and grabbed my pistol
Bathed in blue light, I saw him playing on the stage
His trumpet blaring and his heart was beating
That's when I heard it, the melody he had for me
I looked across the room, he was playing it for her
So...

Chorus

Slow Interlude
I saw my sweetheart as he lay there on the stage
He was so helpless I forgot all my rage
I kissed my baby for the last time there that night
His blood was on my lips and stayed there all my life
My heart is weary and my eyes are filled with tears
Woah, is there nothing left for me?

Chorus
Track Name: Neighborhood Tea
In a chapel, by the freeway, I said "What would you do?"
You looked in my eyes, cocked your head sideways
And said "If I only knew."

Chorus
Where have all the lovers gone?
Were they looking for something new?
Maybe they'll descend upon us
Out of the blue

I know something, about your nature and I just learned it too.
I observed it from your nature,
It's what you always do.

Chorus
Where have all the poets gone?
Were they looking for something new?
Maybe they'll descend upon us
Out of the blue

At a barstool I slew a demon, and another too
But they kept pouring out of the fountain,
Oh what was I to do?

Chorus
Where have all the heroes gone?
Were they looking for something new?
Maybe they'll descend upon us
Out of the blue

Where have all the people gone?
Were they looking for something new?
Maybe they'll descend upon us
Out of the blue
Track Name: Crystal Sea
White smoke rolling, through your shadow
I watched a leaf fall from a tree
A dark wind caught it and swept it under
The gnarled roots of the tree

Chorus
You know I've missed you, whole you've wandered
Across that crystal sea
Oh my dear, oh my love
Please come back to me

When we were younger, we'd go strolling
Through the dark and turning sea
Converse with mermaids, caress the shadows
In the occult caves of the deep

Chorus

Now I watch you, you get older
Icy winds have chapped your cheeks
My eyes grow weary, I just can't watch you
As you drown in a twisted sea

Chorus
Track Name: Howl
I wake up in the morning and these birds are singing sweetly
I open up my eyelids and the walls all speak to me
I will whistle at their whispers
I will shiver in the shadows
I find myself in places
I'm not supposed be

I soar aimless through the ocean spray
Or I flutter over gallows
Remorseless winds of time blow all my
Feathers to the morrow
I sense movement in the woods and their eyes
Shimmer in the shadows
The pack of beasts are howling
Bent to an orb of night

Chorus
Howl at the moon
Howl at the moon
Crawl out of your hiding place
And howl at the moon

Howl at the moon
Howl at the moon
Say hello to distant faces
Howl at the moon

Everywhere I go you know
These people look so strange to me
The tip their hats in photographs
They are a mystery
Melancholy smiling eyes
This world is so weary
I don't know why they're smiling
When they seem to sad to me

Chorus

In evening when the sun gets low
Light flickers through the trees
There's happy creatures everywhere
Just doing what they please
Tiny ants mill around and little snakes slither
The frogs are sweetly singing and it sounds so good to me

Chorus

At midnight on this starlit road I kick the cobblestones
I sing myself a lullaby <scat>
I will wander now to find my love, his eyes are molten gold
While dreaming of his sweet caress my mind is close to home

Chorus x2
